I’ll say it straight away: Emerald Green might never quite make it to stardom in my own personal colour circus. I looked away for a bit or so it seems. And when directed my attention towards colour trends again they had announced the Pantone Colour of the Year 2013. They think it should be….. Emerald Green!
At least that’s what they call it. It’s not exactly what I associate with emerald green, thinking emerald green should be vibrant and have more brilliance. But the experts at Pantone have declared this colour to be “emerald green”. And so be it! Inspired by the fact that everyone has been talking colour trends lately, I pulled my own little colour scheme revolving around emerald green.
The surprising thing is I was wearing emerald green myself yesterday. I don’t remember when I had done that last which made it such a fun coincidence. I wore and became aware of the colour of the year on the same day!
Another thing is that I don’t really gravitate towards it. I find it too dull, at bit greyed, and I like my colours brilliant and vibrant! It reminds me of the eighties. I have been there; in the eighties, and a lot of ugliness was going on there. Let’s not repeat mistakes! That’s one reason I’m not ready for this years colour of the year.
However, seeing the palette layed out next to my source of inspiration, the random outfit from yesterday, I think it might work.
But the real reason I’m not ready for this years colour of the year is that I’m not ready to say goodbye to last year’s; Tangerine Tango. Now THAT was a colour that spoke to me! Below you can see this year’s and the past years’ colours of the year.
You might want to have a look at what’s in my kitchen. I bought my orange smeg fridge back in 2009 – three years before it was given the honours of being colour of the year in 2012. I have never been concerned with trending colours or colour forecasts. I have just trusted my gut instinct on colour. But colour is my backbone. And that is why I never have a hard time choosing colour.
As I set out to say: Emerald Green might never quite make it to stardom in my own personal colour circus. But I’m willing to allow a solo guest appearance now and then.
